Your transfer from Guilin airport, train station or hotel will be waiting for your arrival to take you to our hotel in the Yulong River valley. Keep an eye out for a Bike Asia sign with your name on it! The drive takes approximately 80 minutes. Day 2: Explore the Yulong River Valley by Bike and Bamboo Raft - Evening Liu San Jie LightshowBreakfast & Lunch 25 km
Guided by a local expert, you’ll cycle through some of the quieter rural villages along the spectaculat Yulong River valley. We'll visit the 400 year old Yulong and Fuli Bridges where we’ll stop for a local lunch. After lunch we'll cycle to the boat jetty toboard a bamboo raft for a slow drift down the river, poled along by a local boatman who might regale you with local folk songs. Along the way you’ll see locals working fields and tending livestock. Depending on time and interest you have the option to visit the market town of Baisha, one of the region's busiest markets. After the boat ride it's a short cycle back to the hotel where you will have free time to relax or explore the surrounding village.
In the evening you’ll head out to see a performance of the Liu San Jie (Three Sisters Liu) Light and Sound show. This performance, designed by the director of the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony, Zang Yimou, features a cast of over three hundred performers and lights up the local karst mountains and river-scapes to create a spectacle that is quite extraordinary. After the show you'll be transferred back to your hotel.
Day 3: Cycle the Southern Yulong Valley & Climb Moon Hill - Free EveningBreakfast & Lunch 25 km
Today we'll spend most of the day outside exploring the area along the southern section of the Yulong River. To start, we cycle on smooth back country roads through some of Yangshuo’s most stunning karst mountain scenery to Moon Hill, the most famous karst mountain in the area. You have the option of climbing the stairs to the lookout point - about a 25min walk - where you'll have superb views of the surrounding mountains and villages. We’ll stop along the way for a local style lunch in a farmers restaurant. The return ride to the hotel is equally spectacular as we make our way back exploring villages and the river scenery along a different route. The remainder of the day and evening is free to relax and explore as you wish.
Day 4: Cooking Class (Lunch or Dinner Option) - Free EveningBreakfast
Today we get busy in the kitchen learning how to make some of the local Chinese specialties at the Yangshuo Cooking School. Yangshuo is one of China’s most tourist friendly destinations with arguably it’s most amazing landscapes and rural scenery. Any trip to China should ideally include a visit to Yangshuo where you will experience classic Chinese scenery, village culture and local life far from the big cities. This tour takes you right into village life - you'll stay in a beautifully restored Qing Dynasty hotel in the heart of Jiuxian village which is situated in the idylic Yulong River valley. From here there are plentiful opportunities to explore by foot the surrounding farmland and tiny villages as the locals go about their daily life and we'll guide you throughout the area by bike. We explore further along the Li River to the small villages of Liugong and and Fuli by bicycle and mix it up with a bamboo boat ride along the Yulong River. Moon Hill is a favourite mountain to climb and we'll stop to take in the sublime karst mountain views. The cycling is easy and relaxed and an unforgettable way to experience local life and rural China. We also throw in a cooking class where you will prepare your own local style lunch and, for one of the evenings, we include a visit to the Liu San Jie Light and Sound show that lights up the Li River featuring a cast of hundreds of performers.
