An Ovoo is something you will become quite familiar with in the Mongolian countryside. A pre-Buddhist or Shamanic pyramid-shaped object that was traditionally built to honour and appease the spirits of the dead, and made of either stones or tree branches (like the one above). Added will be sky-blue kata scarves, and other items. Etiquette dictates you should circle the ovoo three times in a clockwise direction, on foot, by horse or even by bike.
