Bike Asia’s newest cycling trip, The Magic & Majesty of Shangri La, is something to get excited about!

Come cycling with Bike Asia through the breathtaking landscape of the Tibetan Plateau in Yunnan.  Take on roads that seem to defy the imagination whilst experiencing fascinating cultures and amazing biological diversity.

YANGSHUO, CHINA (April 15, 2010):   Bike Asia’s awesome new cycling itinerary takes you into the little explored corners of the Tibetan Plateau in Yunnan Province, China.

Traversing along the ancient tea horse route to the dramatic beauty of White Horse and Mei Li Snow Mountains we pass by villages of the Tibetan, Naxi, Lisu, Yi and Bai minorities each distinct in character.   The dramatic and unique scenery of the Yangtze and Mekong River valleys, great wilderness hikes, limpid hot springs and a chance to get a glimpse of the rare, endangered Golden Haired Monkey all feature.

A 15 day cycling adventure that sees us cover an awe-inspiring 650 kilometres with a fantastic mix of on and off road riding.    Some steep climbs and sweeping downhill runs satisfy both adrenalin junkies and adventurous souls alike.  Accommodation is as varied as the landscape - we spend nights in local guesthouses, camping under crisp dark skies dripping with stars and an occasional atmospheric evening in a Tibetan monastery and 100 year old church.

Blessed with a myriad of cultural and natural treasures not able to be witnessed together in any other destination means Shangri la truly lives up to its reputation as utopia in the mystical Himalaya.   This spectacular and challenging ride provides ample rewards for those adventurous enough to give it a go.
