| Day | Activity | Location | Naadam festival – horse racing – Mountain biking – river crossings – Gobi desert – ger camps – campfires under the stars – yak herds – nomads – dirt tracks – horses – herdsmen – Khar Khorin This extended version of our Wild Mongolia trip combines Mongolia's national games, the Naadam Festival, with a 9 day mountain bike journey through the vast mountains, valleys and plains of central Mongolia. In Ulaan Baatar we take in the highly competitive wrestling, horse racing and archery championships, before heading out of the city into a land with no fences, and no roads. Our cycling adventure is across the Arkhangai Mountains, from the edge of the Gobi desert at Bayanhongor to the ancient Mongolian capital of Kharkhorin, right into the heart of Mongolia to meet its nomadic peoples. This is an off-roader's dream, cycling through a diversity of landscapes, including the mountains of the Arkhanghai, lush green grasslands, pine forests and the spectacular Orkhon Falls. |

The food and dining facilities were excellent." – Melissa Cundy, Aug 2007 "Timur [local guide] was a real laugh. We couldn't have had any better. He loves his country and wants to show it to the world." – Carl Andrews, Aug 2007 "Great experiences with bonus surprises... like unexpected Naadam in the middle of nowhere..." – Susan McInnes, July 2005 |
